About Us:
Our project aims to present the history and fundamentals of neuroscience in an interesting and accessible manner – through the wonderful world of cartoon imagery.

Our timeline is a work in progress and currently aims to combine the findings and methodological advances of specific historical researchers across many decades. We wanted to make this type of information publicly available to help interested individuals explore the rich past of neuroscience research, which has laid the foundation for current techniques and research questions.

Our project began through the Neuroscience Graduate Students' Association (GSA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 2017, the Neuroscience GSA was successful in originally acquiring funding for this project through the Faculty of Medicine’s Graduate Student Initiative Fund and the Neuroscience Department. In early 2018, our project won the Canadian Neuroscience (CAN) 2018 Advocacy and Outreach Award. At this time, the core leadership of the project has moved to the University of Calgary (UofC) in Alberta, Canada, and has recently received funding through the UofC GSA Quality Money Program.

G
raduate students at both UBC and UofC are collaboratively involved in forming descriptions of specific historical neuroscientists and providing templates for cartoons. In collaboration with science cartoonists, Armin Mortazavi and Aarthi Gobinath, as well as web designer Luis Bolanos, many of these cartoons are now available in the timeline tab of this website.

Please continue to check back as more information and cartoons will be added soon.
